Extra-Deep Sofas

Most sofas are designed for sitting. Extra-deep sofas are designed for staying. The difference in seat depth — typically 10 to 15 centimetres more than a standard sofa — changes how a sofa feels entirely: the difference between perching and properly settling in.

What Extra Deep Actually Means

Standard sofa seat depth runs to around 55–60 cm. Extra deep starts at 65 cm and reaches 75–80 cm or more. At that depth you can sit cross-legged, curl up with your legs tucked, or use a cushion behind your back and still have room to breathe. Tall people notice the difference most — a deeper seat means the thighs rest properly rather than the knees riding up.
